The Rehoboth Beach Museum, 511 Rehoboth Ave., will welcome Mike Dixon for his lecture “Unlocking the History of and Old House” at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 18.

Just as families have a past, old houses and the land they are built on have histories. This practical lecture is designed to show guests how to uncover that past and answer questions such as when was the structure built, who lived in it, how has it changed over time and what its stories are. The discussion centers on implementing an organized research process, what records are available, where to look for documents and interpreting the findings and concludes with suggestions for creating a history of an old house.

Dixon is a historian and writer whose research and teaching focuses on social history and community studies. For more than four decades, he has worked to encourage public interest and participation in the preservation of the past.

A $5 donation is suggested, and the program is free for museum members. Registration is required to 227-7310 to ensure space.
