The Delaware Department of Justice is marking National Consumer Protection Week by conducting informational public forums across Delaware this week. The Department’s presentations will focus on the common consumer crimes of identity theft as well as charity fraud, brought into focus in the aftermath of the Haiti and Chile earthquakes and the Attorney General’s recent warning to be alert for schemes purporting to be legitimate earthquake relief charities.
"The best protection against consumer fraud is to prevent it in the first place,” Attorney General Biden stated. “We’re recognizing Consumer Protection Week by traveling to every corner of our state to talk with consumers, and in particular seniors, about common scams and frauds and educate them about how to avoid becoming victims. We invite all Delawareans to learn more about protecting themselves and their families by attending our presentations, visiting our website, or calling our Consumer Hotline at 800-220-5424.”
A presentation in Georgetown will take place on Wednesday, March 10, 10 a.m. at the Georgetown Senior Center, 546 S. Bedford St., Georgetown.
