Thirteen students from Indian River High School have qualified for the Business Professionals of America 2010 National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California from May 4-9.

Devon Beck, Emily Bergman, Kathleen Cramer, Kate Hickman, Alyssa Hudson, Macy Lyons, Jacob Martin, Amanda Merritt, Lucille Rinker, Brooke Rogers, Payton Saxton, Gabriella Jenkins and Jung Son will join more than 5,000 conference delegates from across the country at the national conference. They will participate in business skills competitions, workshops, general sessions and national officer candidate campaigns and elections. The theme of this year’s national conference is “Shoot for Success.”

The students earned invitations to the national conference by placing near the top of their events at the Delaware BPA Leadership Conference in Dover on March 8-9. Results are as follows:

• Devon Beck, first place in Payroll Accounting.
• Emily Bergman, Kathleen Cramer and Jung Son, first place in the Global Marketing team event.
• Kate Hickman, Gabriella Jenkins and Amanda Merritt, first place in the Economic Research team event.
• Kate Hickman, fourth place in Computerized Accounting.
• Alyssa Hudson, Macy Lyons and Payton Saxton, second place in the Economic Research team event.
• Macy Lyons, third place in Administrative Support Research Project individual event.
• Jacob Martin, first place in the Economic Research Project individual event.
• Brooke Rogers, second place in Advanced Accounting.

Overall, Indian River High School had 30 individuals and teams place in the Top 10 of their respective events at the state leadership conference. 

“All of our BPA students have worked so hard this year. At the national conference the students will utilize all of the skills they’ve learned throughout the school year to demonstrate the knowledge they gained from IRHS’s Business Pathway,” BPA Chapter Advisor Tina Downs said.

“The faculty and administration at Indian River are extremely proud of every student who participated in the state leadership conference. We look forward to more winners at the national conference in Anaheim this May.”
