Delaware State Police apprehended Woodrow W. Dickerson III on Tuesday, Aug. 17. They formally charged him at this time. Police were able to apprehend the suspect after a citizen, who knew he was wanted by police, saw him on Flowers Beach, south of Slaughter Beach.
Dickerson left Flowers Beach and drove to Reedcliffe Lane, a dead end road, south of Prime Hook Road. It was there that troopers spotted his green Chevrolet Blazer. Troopers approached the vehicle and Dickerson fled into the nearby woods. Police worked with K-9 Turbo to track Dickerson's scent back to Coastal Highway, where the scent was lost.
Shortly after that, Dickerson was apprehended - but details of his capture were not being released by police. Dickerson was taken to SCI in lieu of $35,500 secured bond.
Police were searching for Dickerson who is a suspect in several crimes at Broadkill Beach over the course of a day. Dickerson is charged with possession of a deadly weapon, two counts of aggravated menacing, two counts of unlawful sexual contact, two counts of sexual harassment and criminal mischief. He is now charged with resisting arrest as well after police chased him Tuesday.
On Sunday, Aug. 15, Delaware State Police were called to Broadkill Beach outside Milton to investigate an unlawful sexual contact complaint.
State police first talked to a 38-year-old female from Clayton about the incident. Troopers learned that a white male later determined to be Woodrow W. Dickerson III approached two women and engaged in unwanted conversation and sexual advancement.
Around 5:30 p.m. Sunday Dickerson, 34 of Thomas Street in Milton, is alleged to have contacted the 38-year-old victim as she was walking off the beach. Dickerson attempted to engage in conversation with the victim but was denied. The victim walked away, however, Dickerson continued to follow her and eventually stopped her again. The victim then was touched in an inappropriate and unwanted fashion by Dickerson. Dickerson next grabbed her arm and began to pull at her. Dickerson continued to make inappropriate comments at which time the victim broke free of his grasped and ran home.
A short time later the 38-year-old victim returned to the scene with a 42-year-old victim. Dickerson was still in the area of the aforementioned crime standing near his vehicle. The 38-year-old female and 42-year-old male approached Dickerson and engaged in an altercation. Dickerson then is alleged to have pulled a pocketknife displaying it toward the victims. The 42-year-old victim was able to close the door to Dickerson’s vehicle, at which time he then drove away from the scene. A registration was obtained by the victim, which helped identify the vehicle Dickerson was driving - a 1997 Green Chevrolet Blazer. Dickerson is not the registered owner however additional information obtained by police helped positively identify him as the operator and suspect.
Prior to the knife incident Dickerson approached a 27-year-old Chambersburg, Pa. woman walking off the beach with her son. Dickerson again made inappropriate comments to the victim and followed her to her car. The victim was able to get away safely and contact authorities.
The fourth incident occurred when a 37-year-old Lebanon Pa. man exited the beach and found his car tire had been slashed. This happened around 5:45 p.m. The Lebanon, Pa. man talked to the other victims and witnesses who said Dickerson was most likely the culprit in this crime.
