Bicyclist in critical condition after being struck near Georgetown

A Laurel man, according to Delaware State Police, is in extremely critical condition after he was struck while riding a bike on Route 9 at approximately 9:10 p.m on Sunday, Aug. 1.

The incident occurred as Mary Ann Bailey, 39 of Milton, was driving her 2003 GMC westbound on Route 9 in the area of Dukes Farm Road. Bailey then struck a male bicyclist who drove into her lane of travel, sending him over the top of her vehicle. The male victim was transported by EMS to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in extremely critical condition with severe blunt force injuries. The accident is still under investigation at this time. The name of the male victim will be released upon notification of the next of kin.
