Bishopville man charged with 149 counts of Sussex check theft

On March 8, officers arrested Patrick Swiontek, 50, of Bishopville, Md., in connection with the theft of 149 checks, totaling a loss in excess of $20,000. The checks were allegedly stolen, forged, and then cashed at a local liquor store during an eight-month period during which Swiontek and the elderly victim lived in the same residence.

Swiontek was currently in Maryland, where he was incarcerated on unrelated charges.  After completing his sentence in Maryland, he was subsequently turned over to the Selbyville Police Department, where he was arrested on 149 charges of felony theft.

Swiontek was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 in Georgetown, and subsequently incarcerated in Sussex Correction Institute on $12,500 secure bond pending trial.
