Sussex County council has set several public hearings for its April 28 meeting.
• Council introduced an ordinance at a recent meeting to revise the fees of the Clerk of the Peace. An increase in some fees is proposed, including increasing marriage licenses for Delaware residents from $30 to $50 and non-residents from $50 to $100. The current revenue is $65,745. The increases would bring the revenue to $124,895. A public hearing is planned for the April 28 meting at 3:45 p.m.
• A hearing to revise Register of Wills fees will be held at 4 p.m. A 1.75 percent increased assessment tax on estates to bring the county in line with Kent and New Castle counties is proposed. This would allow the county to collect $300-$400,000 per year.
• A hearing on an ordinance to establish the annual assessment rate for the Prince George’s Acres expansion of the Dagsboro-Frankford Sanitary Sewer District will be held at 4:30 p.m.
• At its April 21 meeting, county council made several proclamations including the following:
- April: Fair Housing Month
- April 19-25: National Volunteer Week
- April 26-May 3: Soil Stewardship Week
- May 7: Foster Grandparent Day
- May 8: Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Day
• Council voted 3-1, with Joan Deaver voting against and George Cole abstaining, on April 21 to approve three change of zone applications from P.G.S. Properties LLC, for land in Dagsboro Hundred. All three were to change zoning from Agricultural Residential to Commercial Residential District. The first was for land southeast of Route 26, 505 feet southwest of Route 113 on 10 acres. The second was for land west of Route 113, 1,500 feet south of Route 26 on 7 acres. The final was for land west of Route 113, 800 feet south of Route 26 on 0.64 acres.
