County wastewater staff to receive EPA award

OCEAN VIEW, DEL. -

Representatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will recognize the staff of the South Coastal Regional Wastewater Facility near Ocean View on Friday (Nov. 14), with the Region III award for Excellence in Operations and Maintenance.

The ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the treatment facility, located at 33711 South Coastal Lane, just off Beaver Dam Road south of Ocean View.

County administrator David B. Baker will be joined by various County staff, as well as by representatives from the EPA, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, the USDA Rural Development Office, the Delaware Rural Water Association, Delaware Technical & Community College, and Gold & Associates.

The EPA award is the second for the South Coastal facility since 1999. The honor is awarded yearly by EPA Region III in recognition of outstanding operations and maintenance practices and compliance status for wastewater treatment facilities in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. The South Coastal facility is one of two among nearly 4,000 facilities in Region III to win the honor this year.
