Delmarva Power will hold community informational meetings in Mardela Springs, Md., on Tuesday,  Sept. 9 and Thursday, Sept. 11, where the public will be able to talk with company officials about the utility’s proposed 230-mile interstate electric transmission line.

Thirty-five miles of the Mid-Atlantic Power Pathway (MAPP) project would be built on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Approximately eight miles of the line would pass through western Wicomico County, using existing rights-of-way from the Nanticoke River through the Mardela Springs area to the Delaware state line. This project will provide immediate electricity reliability benefits to the region when complete.

The project is scheduled to make its way into Delaware by 2012, with a 500-kV transmission line running from Calvert's Cliffs, in Maryland, to the NRG power plant, in Millsboro.

“We believe this line is critical to supply this region’s power needs today and in the future,” said MAPP Project Manager Vincent Maione. “It is important that western Wicomico County residents understand that the route will go along existing rights-of-way. These meetings are an opportunity for local citizens to learn about the project and gain an understanding of the process.”

The general public is invited to attend the meetings which will be held as information fairs, with Delmarva Power employees available to gather comments and answer questions.

Time, dates and location for community meetings:

• When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9 & Thursday, Sept. 11
• Where: Mardela Springs Fire Hall, 100 Station Street, Mardela Springs, Md.
