Georgetown firefighters brought a field fire under control that broke just after 4 p.m. this afternoon (June 16), off Kruger Road, west of U.S. 113.

The fire, which started in a wheat field across from 24975 Kruger Road, approximately a half-mile west of its intersection with Breasure Road, according to Georgetown Fire Policeman Ira Hitchens, gave off a column of smoke visible from South Bedford Street.

Georgetown Fire Company crews brought the blaze under control around 5:20 p.m., according to Station 77's Jim King.
