The Delaware Military Heritage and Education Foundation will hold its inaugural Military Heritage Day on Saturday, Nov. 7 on the museum grounds at Fort DuPont State Park.

The foundation will have displays of antique military vehicles, re-enactors from most of the major periods of the United States' military history, military music, parades and more throughout the day.

There will be plenty of dealers and vendors on hand for those interested in collecting, buying, selling or swapping military memorabilia.

The foundation plans an afternoon ceremony with a parade in review and a musket salute on the parade ground in front of the museum.

Gov. Jack Markell has declared Nov. 8-14 to be Military Heritage Week in Delaware and he will be on hand when the foundation is presented with the flag from the U.S.S. Cole, after it was struck by a terrorist attack. The flag was donated as part of our permanent collection.

The program will also feature Delaware Humanities Forum-sponsored, seminar lectures by military historians inside the museum building. These will include "Vietnam Mailbag" author Nancy Lynch, Wade Catts on the Battle of Coochs Bridge, Jan Churchill on "Women in Military Aviation" and Dave Rickman on a "A Tale of Three Forts: Preserving Delaware's Military Legacy."
