Polytech 7, Sussex Central 6: Things did not go well for the Golden Knights (0-1 overall, 0-1 Henlopen) in their season opener, as they fell to Southern Division opponent Polytech 7-6.
Trailing by two entering the bottom half of the seventh inning, Central loaded the bases with no outs and was able to push a run across on a passed ball, but with runners on second and third and one out, the game ended on a line drive double play at third.
The Knights, who led by three twice in the contest, took a 5-3 advantage into the top half of the seventh but watched the visiting Panthers take advantage of some errors and timely hits to plate four scores off losing pitcher Connor Cooper.
Senior Steve Novak started the game for Central and gave up one run on four hits while striking out three and walking two in 4 1/3 innings.
Leading the way at the dish for Central was junior Jesse Long, who went 2-for-4, while Cooper doubled in a run in his only at bat.
Sussex Tech 13, Seaford 3: Sussex Tech scored runs in every inning played and blew out Seaford in both team’s season and conference openers.
The Ravens (1-0, 1-0) pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of five Blue Jays’ errors en route to the six-inning mercy rule win.
Indian River 3, Dover 2: Indian River picked up a conference win over North foe Dover in both teams’ season opener.

Sussex Central 6, Polytech 5: Sussex Central plated five runs in the second frame and then held on for a victory over visiting Polytech.
The Lady Knights (1-0, 1-0) led 6-1 after both teams traded runs in the fourth inning, but the Panthers scored twice in the fifth and again in the seventh to make Central sweat.
Senior Whitney Brittingham and sophomore Michaela Steele each had 2-for-3 afternoons, while Katie Warrington scored a pair of runs.
Senior starter Kristen Cooper struck out seven for Central to earn the win.

Doherty, along with fellow senior Logan Pavlik (three hits), each scored three times for Tech.
The Ravens (1-0, 1-0) got four innings of one-hit ball from junior windmiller Kim Smith, who struck out 12 of the 13 batters she faced.
Indian River 24, Dover 2: Indian River pitchers Rachel Hudson and Ashley Banks combined for a five-inning no-hitter as the Lady Indians pounded Dover.

Girls’ soccer
Indian River 4, Dover 1: Senior Caitlin Forte, who was nursing an injury for most of the preseason, scored a pair of goals and added an assist as the Lady Indians bested Dover in their season opener.
Senior Morgan Warrington had a pair of assists, her twin Miranda Warrington added a goal and Sydney Barch found the net as well as IR improved to 1-0 overall and in conference.
Sussex Tech 1, Seaford 0: Sussex Tech won its season and conference opener thanks to senior Leanne Rowe’s goal at the 32-minute mark.
Polytech 7, Sussex Central 3: Polytech netted five first half goals and coasted to a season-opening victory over Sussex Central.
Golf
Sussex Tech 175, Woodbridge 246: Sussex Tech got its Henlopen Championship chase started on the right foot with a conference win over visiting Woodbridge.
Tim Gaskin carded a low-round 40 to lead the Ravens in the win.
