The annual Lewes Polar Bear Plunge drew 2,323 people to Rehoboth Beach where they dipped into the chilly Atlantic to raise money for Special Olympics Delaware Sunday, March 14.

With the water temperature at 42 degrees and the air temperature at 48 degrees, the event raised more than $500,000, Special Olympics spokesman Jon Buzby said.

“We are once again overwhelmed by the generous support of the community for the athletes of Special Olympics Delaware,” he said. “And as wonderful as the money raised is, it’s just as important to us that we reached out to an even broader audience about the abilities of people with intellectual disabilities.”
