Little League All-Star action began Thursday, July 8, with the 9- and 10-year-old Minor League teams from across Sussex County.

Both Millsboro and Georgetown's teams suffered losses on opening day, as the former dropped a heartbreaker 3-2 to Laurel and the latter struggled against Lewes in a 10-0 defeat.

The losses mean a trip to the dreaded loser's bracket and force Millsboro to square off with Nanticoke today (Friday) in an elimination game at Woodbridge (6 p.m.) while Georgetown will play the winner of that contest a day later at 8 p.m. at the same site.

Lower Sussex, however, emerged victorious 7-4 over Rehoboth in its opener and will play a winner's bracket contest against Woodbridge Saturday, 8 p.m., in Millsboro.

Minor League Softball begins tonight, as Millsboro-Georgetown will take on Woodbridge at 6 p.m. in Georgetown for its opener, while Lower Sussex plays Lewes at Lewes at the same time.

Also tonight, the Big League All-Star state tournament begins in Georgetown at 7 p.m. with host District III (Sussex County) taking on District II (New Castle) in a double elimination tourney that will send the victor to the next round. Regardless of what happens tonight, the teams will finish the series Saturday with game two scheduled for 3 p.m. and another, if needed, slated to follow.
