Following is a brief wrap-up of reported action from Sussex Central, Sussex Tech and Indian River’s sports teams.

Baseball

Sussex Central 12, Lake Forest 2: Sussex Central got its first win of the season in a rout of Lake Forest.

Leading the way for the Golden Knights, who pounded out 14 hits and won in six innings, was senior Matt Cleary (3-for-4, 2 RBI. Central also got strong performances at the dish from senior catcher Chris Conaway (2 doubles, 1 RBI), junior third baseman Jesse Long (2-for-2, 2 RBI) and sophomore shortstop Garrett Hudson, who drove in a pair of runs.

Not to be outdone, sophomore pitcher Tyler Aiken tossed five innings of four-hit ball and struck out eight Spartans along the way to earn his first varsity win.

Next up for the Knights (1-3 overall, 1-2 Henlopen) is Thursday’s home game with Dover.

Polytech 5, Indian River 4: Polytech handed IR baseball its first loss of the season, thanks to a four-run fifth inning comeback.

Softball

Sussex Central 14, Lake Forest 10: Lady Knights sophomore Mykala Steele struck out nine Lady Spartans from the circle and went 4-for-4 at the dish to lead Central in a slugfest victory.

Senior battery mate Whitney Brittingham scored four times for Central (3-0 overall, 3-0 Henlopen), while sophomore Tori Short chipped in with three hits of her own, including a triple.

The Knights led 10-4 going into the fifth frame before watching Lake put four runs of its own on the board to close the gap. Central, however, answered with a four-run rally to put the game out of reach.

Central hosts Dover Thursday for a conference affair set to begin at 4:15 p.m.

Sussex Tech 10, Easton (Md.) 1: Sussex Tech senior Kelsey Doherty blasted a two-run homer and the Lady Ravens continued their unbeaten march on the young season.

Tech (4-0, 3-0) got a 2-for-3 day out of Amber Callahan, who drove in three runs, and saw junior Kim Smith knock in a pair of scores on a three-hit afternoon.

Smith also picked up the win in the circle, striking out 10 and allowing just three hits.

Girls soccer

Indian River 3, Caravel 1: Indian River stayed unbeaten with a non-conference win over Caravel. The Lady Indians broke open a 1-1 tie with a pair of second half goals to earn the victory.

Boys tennis

Indian River 5, Cape Henlopen 0: Indian River improved to 2-1 on the season with a shutout victory over Cape Henlopen.

Top singles player David Marshall (6-3, 7-5) got the shutout party started, with No. 2 singles Jung Son (7-6, 6-3) and No. 3 Dan Steeley (6-0, 6-3) following suit.

No. 1 doubles Nick Izzo and Maclean Gray won 6-0, 6-3 and second doubles, Ethan Kelienstuber and Josh Mercer were 6-1, 6-3 victors.
