Bayhealth to mark Breast Cancer Awareness month with free screenings

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Bayhealth will host the 4th Annual Go Pink! event that includes free screenings to increase awareness of breast health for women and men throughout the region.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, Bayhealth will host the Go Pink! Health Fair at the Dover Women’s Center, located at 540 South Governors Avenue in Dover.

Special attractions include free clinical breast exams; free blood pressure screenings; information on available cancer screening, treatment and survivorship programs; free vision screenings; health education opportunities and a bake sale. Bake sale proceeds will be donated to Bayhealth’s Cancer Screening Assistance Fund to provide imaging services to uninsured patients in lower Delaware.

Petch and Paula from Eagle 97.7 FM will be onsite doing live remote from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Bayhealth will also offer free digital screening mammograms to uninsured and underinsured patients from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 6, 16, 21 and 29 at the Women's Center at Dover, Women’s Wellness Center at Milford and Middletown Medical Center.

The free breast imaging is sponsored by The Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Pre-registration is required. Call Bayhealth’s Breast Care Coordinator at 302-744-6773 for information and to schedule an appointment.

Go Pink! T-shirts will be available to purchase for a donation of $10 or more. Sale proceeds after expenses will be divided between the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and breast screenings and education programs available through Bayhealth’s Cancer Institute.

2009 Go Pink! vendors will include: Bayhealth’s Women’s Center, Education Department, Cancer Screening Nurse Navigator, Diagnostic Imaging, Steps to Healthy Aging Program, and Lifestyles Fitness Center, as well as the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, American Cancer Society, Pink Ribbon Boutique, American Heart Association, Blood Bank of Delaware, The Wellness Community, Delaware Division of Public Health Screening for Life, Unison, Delaware Physician’s Care, Halpern Eye Associates and the Delmarva Rural Ministries will have their MATCH Van on site to offer free community health services.
