Evelyn M. Messick of Georgetown, died on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at Home. She was 86.
She was born December 8, 1922 in Georgetown, DE, the daughter of the late George H. and Thelma J. Burks Messick.
She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1940, Drexel Institute in 1955 and Drexel University with a Master of Science in Administration and minor in Nutrition.
She was a member and past treasurer of the Soroptimist’s Club International of Harrisburg, PA, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Harrisburg and Georgetown, DE, a Relief Volunteer of Susquehanna Township, a volunteer for the Senior citizens van in Harrisburg and a member of the AAUW American Association of University Women. She worked a year in Philadelphia at Broad St. Hospital, as head dietitian, worked 5 years at Polyclinic Hospice in Harrisburg and 27 ½ years at the State Hospital in Harrisburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters and one brother, Eleanor M. Johnson, Thelma J. White and Hugh W. Messick.
She is survived by her 2 sisters, Margaret Messick Horsey of Georgetown, Martha Trimper of Ocean City, MD, a brother, Granville Messick and his wife Eugenia of Memphis, TN; 11 nieces and nephews, John Messick, Sue Quarterson and her husband, Christian, Etta Jane Clendaniel and her husband Roy, Virginia Lyn Horsey, Stephen White and his wife Linda, Philip White and his wife Karen, Jeffrey White, George Layton Johnson, Michael Johnson, Sharon Johnson and Rebecca Johnson Dennis and many great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, DE, where friends may call after 1:00 pm. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
