CENTRAL SUSSEX -

Dr. Harold Halpern, 89, of Dover passed away on Friday, June 6 peacefully at his home.

Dr. Halpern was born on February 24, 1919 in Altoona, PA.  He was the son of the late Esther and Neff Halpern.

Dr. Halpern practiced Optometry in Delaware for 45 years.  He graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1946.  When he graduated his specialty was contact lenses.  Dr. Halpern continued to do research and development of contact lenses throughout his career.  Harold Halpern was an international speaker in the field of eye care.

He enjoyed Ocean City and Boca Raton, Fla.  He was an avid golfer.

Dr. Halpern was an army veteran of World War II.  He was active in various civic organizations including the Masons, Shriners.  Dr. Halpern was also active in the American Optometric Association.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Florence (Sanders)Halpern, a daughter, a son and daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Marlene and Lee Goldschmidt and Joel and Dianne Halpern.  Dr. Halpern was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Sarah Rosenzweig, Jill (Jeremy) Brodie, Emily Halpern, Jeff (Bethany) Halpern and Ryan Halpern; four great-grand children, Victoria, Megan and Kaitlyn Brodie and Kyle Halpern.

The funeral took place in Altoona, Pa., on Sunday, June 8.

Please join the Halpern family, friends, patients, and colleagues for a memorial gathering on June 18, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Halpern Eye Associates, Dover location, on 885 S. Governors Ave.
