SAMUEL RAY HOPKINS “SAM”
Samuel Ray Hopkins “Sam” 66, of Millsboro, passed away on August 14, 2008 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. 

Hopkins was a retired electrician serving the area for over 40 years.  He loved carpentry, plumbing, playing horseshoes, Bingo and bidding at Auctions during the family reunions.  He was a past member of the VFW Post 10638 in Millsboro. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church in Millsboro. 

His father, Curtis D. Hopkins, precedes him in death. 

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Margaret A. Powell Hopkins; his mother Mary E. Watson Hopkins of Millsboro; brothers, Daniel C. Hopkins of Ellendale, John S. Hopkins of Millsboro, Robert L. Hopkins and his wife Evelyn of Millsboro, and Nathaniel Hopkins and his wife Edith of Longo Md.; one sister Moezell Hyland (Harvey) of Laurel; aunt, Annie McLaughlin and husband John of Baltimore, Md.; uncle, Joe Watson of Baltimore Md.;  many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive him.

A funeral service was held on Thursday August 21, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Watson Funeral Home 211 South Washington St. Millsboro, where friends called Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from noon –1 p.m. 

Internment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Millsboro. 

Pastor Claudia Waters will officiate.

JAMES RICHARD OLIVER
James Richard Oliver 79, of Bridgeville, passed away on August 12, 2008 at Christiana Hospital, Newark. 

He was formerly employed as a printer with the Philadelphia Enquirer and the TV Guide.  He was a sweet outgoing guy who loved life and people. He enjoyed fishing good food and crabbing. He also enjoyed playing Pinnacle.

His parents precede him in death,  Edwin and Ethel Dooley Oliver. 

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Helen Marie Kuhn Oliver; sons, Andrew Oliver and wife Tammy of Bridgeville; Douglas Oliver and wife Charlene, of Turnersville, NJ; two brothers, Edwin Oliver Jr. of Baltimore, Md.,  Robert Oliver of Baltimore, Md.; and one sister, Eillen Schneile of Baltimore, Md.;  and six grandchildren. 

A Committal service was held on Tuesday, August 19, at  the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Patriots Way Millsboro.

LOUISE C. MOORE
Louise C. Moore, 99, passed away on August 12, 2008 from Cadbury at Lewes to be with her Lord.

Born in Oswego, New York on July 4, 1909. She was the daughter of Hassell and Maude Lounglgy Clayton. In 1945 she married James A. Moore also from Oswego, but teaching at Lewes High School. She joined him in Lewes and worked in the business office at Beebe Hospital until she retired. She was still a member of the Beebe Hospital Auxiliary.

Moore was a member of Lewes Presbyterian Church, were she served as the leader of the Mary Martha Circle until 2005. She was a member of the Kelly Class, after she was unable to help with the Rummage Sale, she bought the hog dogs for workday.

Her husband died January 1980, and she was predeceased by a brother Hassell, and sister Margaret.

Her brother Orville Clayton who lives in Bradenton, FL; and one niece and two nephews, survives her.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 19 at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services on Long Neck Road.

Burial in the Lewes Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

CAROL H. FERGUSON
Carol H. Ferguson, 52, of Long Neck, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving friends and family on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at her home. 

She was born in Wilmington, on December 17, 1955 daughter of Harold F. and Ann (Vari) Haigh, Sr.  She was a Home Consultant for New Dimension Homes in the Pot-Nets area.  She had a strong bond with her friends, customers and community.  She was an exceptional mother whose courage, faith, and love touched many. 

In addition to her mother, Ann L. Haigh, she is survived by a son Thomas Michael Ferguson; a brother Harold F. Haigh, Jr.; a sister Ann Louise King; a good friend T. Michael Ferguson and kitties Bella and Lacie. 

A funeral service was held on Tuesday August 19, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Rd. 

Interment was held privately at Gracelawn Cemetery. 

Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions in Carol’s name to a charity of choice.

DOLORES M. KISTLER
Dolores M. Kistler, 77, of Selbyville, died August 11, 2008 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.   

Kistler was born on September 2, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter to the late Charles Edward and Mary Elizabeth Burns. 

She was raised in Queens, NY with a strict work ethic that started at the Downtown Athletic Club in New York City as an aspiring administrative manager. She worked for the Federal Aviation Administration at Kennedy Airport and on Long Island New York until retirement. She relocated to sunny Florida where she worked for the City of Kissimmee Public Works Department for over 19 years as Office Manager.  Her most enjoyable time was working for the Delaware State Park as a parking lot attendant on Coastal Highway where she ensured that every animal accompanying each vehicle was given a free treat as admission to the beach that day. She loved animals with a passion.

She is survived by her son Charles Thomas Kistler of Selbyville; two grandchildren Charles Andrew and Emmett Alexander; her beautiful sister Roberta Helen McClain and husband Oliver; her endearing brother Charles Thomas Burns and wife Christine; and her comical cousin Anne Marie Jamison and husband Elwood.  Beth Woodall was her true north companion and primary care giver during many of those uncertain and painful times.

Memorial Services were offered on Friday, August 22 at 11 a.m. at the Parish of St. Ann in Ocean View.

Internment services were held privately in Pottsville, Pa. at a later date.

HARVEY JAMES BUNTING
Harvey James Bunting, 84, of Harbeson, died Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

Bunting was born on November 10, 1923 in Bethany Beach, son of the late John Gunzer Bunting and the late Florrie Belle (Fenton) Bunting.    He was a retired Civil Engineer with his career covering service at Ft. Miles, Lewes, from 1942 to late 1950’s and then at the Dover Air Force Base until July 1980 when he retired.  He was a member of the Groome United Methodist Church for many years.  His involvement in the community included being a 32 degree mason and Past Master  (1987) of the Jefferson Lodge, Lewes, member and Past Patron of the Georgetown Chapter #9 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Grand Patron of State Chapter Order of the Eastern Star from 1969-1970, member of the Scottish Rite, member and former Clown “EYEBALLS” at Nur Temple,  founding member of the Delaware Colonials, and Past Associate Bethel Guardian #5 Independent Order of Jobs Daughters.  He also had served as a Scouting Coordinator for boy scouts.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by brothers Gunzer, Roy, George & Alvin Bunting; and sister Eva  Townsend.

He is  survived by his wife of 51 years who celebrated their anniversary on Aug 9th, Anne Louise (Wagamon) Bunting;  daughter, Mary Lou (Bunting) Lawlor and husband Mark of Wilmington; three sons, Stephen K. Bunting of Alexandria, Va., Thomas A. Bunting and fiancé Jodie  Kelly of Annapolis, Md.,  Rev. Dr. Jay E. Bunting and wife Rev. Dr Carolyn Bunting of Oxford, Md.; granddaughter Jessica Newell and husband Jeff of Wilmington; and great-grandson Andrew Patrick Newell; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes on Thursday, August 21, 2008.

The Rev. William Hopkins officiated.

Burial at Coolspring Cemetery, near Lewes.

ORAL ROBERT DONOVAN
Oral Robert Donovan, 43, of Long Neck, near Millsboro, passed on August 16, 2008 in Georgetown, as a result of an automobile accident. 

Donovan was born on October 28, 1964 in Salisbury, Md. to Alfred Donovan of Millsboro, and the late Edna Dean Donovan who passed in 1993. 

He currently worked at Hardee’s in Millsboro and was formerly employed as a poultry worker and formerly worked at Food Lion in Millsboro. He attended the Bethel Tabernacle in Clarksville, and he was a member of the 1983 class of Sussex Central High School, Georgetown.

In addition to his father, He is survived by his brother Brad Donovan of Bridgeville; his companion Ann Knauer; and his aunt and uncle Virginia and Gene Breeding of Denton, Md.

Services were held Friday, August 22, 2008 at the Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro.

Rev. Robert A. Hudson officiated.    

Interment in Dagsboro Redmens Memorial Cemetery, Dagsboro.

IDA A. HAZEL
Ida A. Hazel, 95, of Roxana, passed away at her home on Tuesday, August 19, 2008.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late, Wm.  Frederick and Katie (Janson) Otto.

Hazel worked for Selbyville Cleaners for 12 years and Selbyville Food Rite for 9 years.

She was a charter member of the Roxana Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for 49 years, where she served many dinners.  She was also a member of Roxana Methodist Church, Indian River Senior Center and the Pyle Center Senior Center.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1983; and her son, Frank, Jr., in 1997.

She is survived by a son, Charles Hazel of Lewes; daughter, Kathryn Steele of Lewes; daughter, Carrie Mae Webster and her husband Thomas of Selbyville; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two cousins; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held Friday August 22 at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Frankford.     Burial in the Roxana Cemetery.

ANDREA K. POWELL HARRISON

Andrea K. Powell Harrison, 41, of Lake Worth, Fla., passed away on Wednesday August 20, 2008 at her parents home in Frankford.

She was born in Salisbury, Md., daughter of Donald A. and Paula C. Powell. She was a 1985 graduate of Indian River High School and 1989 graduate of Salisbury University. She attended St. George’s United Methodist Church in Clarksville and South Palm Community Church in Lake Worth, Fla. She was a member of Job’s Daughter’s.  She was a supervisor for Cort Management until her illness in June 2008.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Elmer and Mattie Powell; and maternal grandparents, Herman and Pauline Cropper.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sons, Trevor Grady Harrison and Gregory Tucker Harrison of Lake Worth, Fla.; two brothers, Rex T. Powell and his wife Suzette, James R. Powell and his wife Judy; her fiancé, Mike Sweadner of Lake Worth, Fla.; two nieces, Bethany and Jodie Powell; nephew, James R. Powell, Jr.

A funeral service was held Sunday August 24 at the Ocean View chapel of Melson Funeral Services.     Interment at Mariner’s Bethel Cemetery in Ocean View.

AVIS MARIE WILLIAMSON
Avis Marie Williamson, 91, of Oak Orchard, formerly of Boothwyn, Pa., passed on Thursday, August 21, 2008, at the Atlantic Shores Nursing Center, Millsboro,

Williamson was born on February 18, 1917 in Danville, Pa. to the late John and Mary Ann Cooper Jones.

Williamson was a department manager with Strawbridge Clothier in Wilmington, retiring in 1974 after many years of service. She was a member of the Marcus Hook Baptist Church, Linwood, Pa. and the Oak Orchard Community Church, Millsboro.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Aaron Wesley Williamson in 1998; and her son Roger L. Williamson in 1977.

Williamson is survived by two daughters, Gale M. Simpson of St. Charles, Mo.; and Linda J. Westerside of Keenwick Sound, eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held, Saturday, August 23, at the Oak Orchard Community Church, Millsboro. 

Rev. J. Allen Miller officiated the service. 

Committal and Interment at the Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, Pa.

GILBERT J. “SKIP” DAVIS
Gilbert J. “Skip” Davis, 93, of Frankford, passed away at his home on Wednesday August 20, 2008.     He was born in Ocean View, son of the late, John W. and Georgia (Vickers) Davis.

Davis was a retired Tug Boat Engineer. He was a long time member of the Lord Baltimore Lions Club of Ocean View, the Roxana United Methodist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Winifred E. (Kelley) Davis in 2006.

He is survived by four sons, James and his wife Dianne, John, Donald and his wife Vicki, and Richard and his wife Violet; a daughter, Nancy Kudatzky; sister, Loretta Hassel; and twelve grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Monday August 25 at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services in Frankford.

Burial in Mariner’s Bethel Cemetery in Ocean View.

DOUGLAS CUTHILL
Douglas Cuthill, 84, of Millsboro, formerly of Selbyville, and Scotland, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the Atlantic Shores Nursing Center in Millsboro. 

Cuthill was born on January 3, 1924 in Arbroath, Scotland to the late James Cuthill and Annie Scott Cuthill.

Cuthill was a printer for many years.  He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Royal Air Force serving as a pilot at the rank of Warrant Officer.

He was a Freemason and a member of the Communications Workers of America. Cuthill enjoyed flying and playing Golf. 

He is survived by a son, Scott D. Cuthill and his wife Denise of Millsboro; a daughter, Dianne Janice Bilbo of Berlin, Md.; and three grandchildren.

Services and Interment will be held in Scotland at a later date.

MAY B. STARR
May B. Starr, of Milton, 88, died Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Harbor Healthcare in Lewes.

Starr was born in Toledo, Oh., the daughter of the late Frederick and Millie Trayes Couch.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Goshen U.M. Church, the Red Hat Society and the Y.M.C.A. Water Aerobics.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Starr in 1998; and a grandson, Dr. Christopher Martin in 1998.

She is survived by her children, Frederick M. Starr and his wife Barbara of Rehoboth, John W. Starr and his wife Beverly of Milton and Debra Morgan and her husband Richard of Alexandria, Va.; sister, Faye Lowe of Bangor, Pa.;  five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held Sunday, August 24, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, Milton.         Interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

MARION L. WOODRUM
Marion L. Woodrum, 66, of Newark, formerly of Milton, died Thursday, August 21, 2008 at home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on March 7, 1942 and raised in Milton, the daughter of the late Floyd and Mabel Macumber Wright.

She graduated from Milton High School in 1959. Marion attended Beebe Nursing School and graduated in 1963.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Jack Lloyd Woodrum in 2004; her sisters, Dorothy Andrie, Janet Adele Farrel; and step-son Patrick J. Woodrum.

She is survived by her brothers, William Wright and his wife Arlene, Richard Wright and his wife Barb; sister, Doris Scott; son, Steven A. Sturgis, originally of Newark, now of Guerneville Calif.; daughter, Kimberly M. Sturgis Wyatt and her husband Eric C. of Newark; and stepsons, Edward J. Woodrum and his wife Kimberly K. Woodrum of Newark and J. Michael Woodrum and his wife Linda of Mystic, Ct.; 12 nieces and nephews, eight grandchildren, one great-grandson.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the chapel of Short Funeral Services, Milton. 

Interment in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.

CLIFFORD A MOORE
Clifford A Moore, 90, of Milford, died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Milford Memorial Hospital surrounded by his  sister and son. 

He was born on March 8, 1918,  son  of the late Joseph Russell  Moore and Mary “Phillips” Moore. He was a member of the Senior Citizens of Milton, Georgetown and Milford. He retired from Walls Builders as a carpenter and loved sharing his knowledge of the trade with everyone.  Playing canasta with his sister and friends was his love, as well as going to the casino to visit a very close friend.

He was preceded in death  by his wife Florence E.;  and daughter Priscilla Moore.

He is survived by two daughters, Rosalee Stein and Paulette Vavala of Fla.;  son Ronald A. Moore and wife Kathy of Ellendale; sister Margaret Moore; six grandchildren, Michelle, Danielle, Melissa, Harold, Kandace and Ronnie II; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Macy;  five step-grandchildren: 

Funeral Services will be held (today) Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Short Funeral Services 609 East Market St,  Georgetown, Delaware, where friends may call after 11:00 am. 

Interment will be in Union Cemetery , Georgetown.

EDWARD MARK LOWE, SR.
Edward Mark Lowe, 59, of South Bethany, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at home surrounded by friends and family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lowe was born on July 7, 1949 in Bayonne, NJ to Anne Souders Lowe of St. Petersburg, Fla. and the late Edward Louis Lowe.

He was a teacher that taught many subjects with the State of Delaware retiring after 25 years of service and for the last seven years he worked in real estate with his wife. Lowe was a “doer” and an avid traveler, fisherman, hunter, diver, camper, skier, and builder; he constructed 3 of the 5 homes that the family lived in and his family was always his first priority.  He was a member of the Freemasons and the Bethany Beach Fire Company. 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 34 years, Martha Harbison Lowe; two sons, Edward Mark Lowe, Jr. and David N. Lowe; one daughter, Kristen Steele and her husband Jerrad; two sisters, Elaine Haudloff and her husband Richard and Laurie Baker and her husband Wayne; a sister in law, Ann Lucas and her husband Gene; an aunt, Marie Baker; two grandchildren, Kyle and Morgan Steele; nieces, nephews, cousins, and his devoted canine Bo.

Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the St. George’s United Methodist Church, Vines Creek and Omar Roads, Clarksville.

Rev. Rick Wessell will officiate the service.

Interment in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Vines Creek, Dagsboro.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for contributions to the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 950, Bethany Beach, DE 19930.
