MICHAEL WAYNE HUDSON
Michael W. Hudson 54, of Casa Grande, Ariz., formerly of Milford, went to his heavenly home to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 29, 2008. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, and passed away from his earthly home in Casa Grande, Ariz., surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was born in Milford, on April 13, 1954.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer Robert Hudson, Jr. and Doris Adams Hudson Howell.
He served our country in the Military Intelligence Branch of the United States Army and retired from that career in 1992. Michael was exceptionally patriotic and proud to be an American. Subsequent to his military career he worked in non-profit agencies benefiting the cause of child welfare and serving as an advocate for the underprivileged.
Michael was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend. He lived his life with integrity and honor. He had a passionate and faithful relationship with our Lord, Jesus Christ. His loving, caring and gentle spirit touched the hearts of many. In addition to those gifts, he possessed an awesome sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Debbie Bryant-Hudson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard E. Bryant, of Columbia, KY; his daughter, Alison Hudson Schrader, of Rehoboth Beach; his sister, Cheryl Abele, of Layton, Utah; his two brothers, Robert Hudson, of Lincoln; and Richard Hudson, of Christmas, Fla.; and a multitude of extended family and friends.
A celebration of Michael’s life was held on Sunday, June 15, at Trinity Mennonite Church.
Internment with full Military Honors was held on Monday, June 16, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona Pinnacle Peak and Cave Creek in Phoenix, Ariz.

DR. HAROLD HALPERN
Dr. Harold Halpern, 89, of Dover, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2008, peacefully at his residence.
Dr. Halpern was born on February 24, 1919, in Altoona, Pa., the son of the late, Esther and Neff Halpern.
Dr. Halpern practiced Optometry in Delaware for 45 years. He graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1946. When he graduated, his specialty was contact lenses. He continued to do research and development of contact lenses throughout his career. Halpern was an international speaker in the field of eye care.
He enjoyed Ocean City, Md., and Boca Raton, Fla. He was an avid golfer.
Dr. Halpern was an army veteran of World War II. He was active in various civic organizations, including the Masons and Shriners. Dr. Halpern was also active in the American Optometric Association.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Florence (Sanders) Halpern, his daughter, Marlene Goldschmidt and her husband, Lee; his son, Joel Halpern and his wife, Dianne; his five grandchildren, Sarah Rosenzweig; Jill Brodie and her husband, Jeremy; Emily Halpern; Jeff Halpern and his wife, Bethany; and Ryan Halpern; his four great-grandchildren, Victoria; Megan and Kaitlyn Brodie; and Kyle Halpern.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday, June 8, in Altoona, Pa.

DIRK R. SOCKRITER
Dirk R. Sockriter, 54, of Millsboro, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at his residence.
Dirk was a very funny person, always having something funny to say to make you laugh. He was a very good person and will be sadly missed.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Sockriter Beard in 2000; his father, Russell J. Sockriter in 2002; and his mother, Hilda Chandler Sockriter in 2003.
He is survived by his two sons, Brian and Scott Sockriter, both of Millsboro; his two brothers, Kevin Sockriter, of Laurel; and Myron Sockriter, of Roxana; his three sisters, Celeste Hastings, of Dagsboro; Sylvia Wilkerson, of Dagsboro; and Melissa Collins, of Millsboro; his two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 13, at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Serices, Frankford.
Burial in Roxana Cemetery.

JOHN V. “JACK” CLARK
John V. “Jack” Clark, 83, of Monrovia, MD, formerly of Milton, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Kline Hospice House, Mt. Airy, Md.
Jack was born in Takoma Park, MD, the son of the late, John A. and Arlene (West) Clark.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a technical writer for the Civil Service Naval Ordnance Lab in Silver Spring, Md., retiring in 1978.
He was a member of the American Legion in Milton, Milton Lions Club, and Milton Volunteer Fire Department, and was also a Lifetime Member of Sandy Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing and refinishing furniture.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Holton.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Clark, his four children, John G. Clark of Shrewsbury, Pa., Kathy Drury, of Monrovia, MD, Susan Yeilding, of Mukilteo, Washington, and Jode McLaughlin, of Phoenix, Ariz.; his 11 grandchildren; and his six great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, June 14, 2008, in the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, Milton.
Interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

RUSSELL R. (SPEEDY) BENSON
Russell R. (Speedy) Benson, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
He was born August 31, 1924, in Lincoln, the son of the late, Elmer and Minnie Benson. He was the owner/operator of Benson’s Fuel Injection in Milton, where he worked many years alongside his wife of 50 years, Betty.
Benson was an avid trap shooter and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Betty Benson, who passed away in 2006; his two brothers, Ralph Benson and Leonard Benson; and his sister, Dorothy Rust. He will always be missed, but not forgotten.
He is survived by his son, David Benson and his wife, Lucy, of Leon, Iowa; his daughter, Bonnie M. Benson, of Lewes; his three sisters, Pearl Wadkins; Louise Webb; and Mary Betty Peterman.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 21, at Conley’s Methodist Church, near Angola, Lewes, at 11 a.m.

MICHAEL D. RHODES-BURROSS
Michael D. Rhodes-Burross, 26, of Long Neck, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2008, at his residence. He was born on July 25, 1981, in Harrisburg, Pa. He was a landscaper.
He was known to many as “Donnie” and some closes to him “Bumper” was an avid car fan. He loved music, playing pool, landscaping and working outdoors. He loved to laugh and he was a “social bee” that enjoyed making new friends. Michael loved to talk on the phonw so much that his family called him “the operator.” Life was sometimes difficult but now he is free. Michael will be sadly missed by his family and friends, as he left us too soon.
Burross is survived by his parents, David and Kristen Rhodes-Burross, of Long Neck; his son, Nicholas Burross and his mother, Tara Mitchell, of Philadelphia, Pa.; his maternal grandparents, Butchie’Boy) Arthur L. Rhodes, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Bressler, Pa.; and Judith Miller, of Harrisburg, Pa.; his paternal grandmother, Imogene Glimpse, of Sardis, Tenn.; his two sisters, Jessica Burross, of Savannah, Tenn.; and Kelly-Linn Burross, of Long Neck; his five uncles, William Rhodes; Arthur Rhodes, III; Michael Hoover; Steven Hoover; and Larry Hoover; his three aunts, his “Aunt Nimmy”, Stacey Avery, of Steelton, Pa.; Lisa Burross; and Teresa Clark; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.

ROBERT L. SCARBOROUGH
Robert L. Scarborough, 73, formerly of Georgetown, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2008, in the skilled nursing unit of the Lutheran Community at Telford, Pa.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late, Lewis and Agnes (Short) Scarborough. He was a United States Army Veteran and served from 1954 until 1956.
He was employed as a meter reader and in the maps and graphs department for the Philadelphia Electric Company for 35 years prior to his retirement in 1990.
Scarborough enjoyed spending time at Rehoboth Beach and the boardwalk, antiquing, socializing and traveling. He always made time to spend with his grandchildren, which was his greatest enjoyment of life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Rose (Marx) Scarborough, who passed away in September of 2000; and his brother, Richard Scarborough.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Dresch, of Lansdale, Pa.; his two sons, John Scarborough and his wife, Lisa, of Telford, Pa.; and Eric L. Scarborough and his wife, Kristie, of Niceville, Fla.; and his 11 grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, June 11, in the Sadler-Suess Funeral Home, Telford, Pa.
Interment in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Marie A. “Rhoda” Schwab, 61, of Ocean View, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
She was born in New York City, NY, the daughter of the late, Stanley and Conchetta (Capone) Dennis.
Schwab was a member of the P.E.T.A. organization.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her granddaughter, Makayla Renee Dunston, who passed away in 2003.
Schwab is survived by her three daughters, Wendy Schwab Wisniewski and her husband, Chris; Cindy dunston and her husband, Sammy; and Robin Jarvis and her husband, Tom; and her three grandchildren, Amanda; Chucky; and Tori.
All Services were private.

KYLIE NICOLE PENUEL
Kylie Nicole Penuel, 11, of Smyrna, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at her residence.
She was born September 18, 1996, in Newark, the daughter of Thomas B. Penuel, of Georgetown and June (Pachalis) Penuel, with whom Kilie lived.
Kylie was a student at the John Bassett Moore Intermediate School in Smyrna, where she had completed the fifth grade.
She wa a member of Girl Scout Troop No. 297 and was an avid animal lover.
Her hobbies included traveling, fishing, hunting, and going to the beach.
Kylie is survived by her parents; her brother, Brandt Penuel, who lives at home; her maternal grandparents, Richard and Janice Pachalis, of Newark; her paternal grandparents, Bruce and Paula Penuel, of Georgetown; and her two uncles, Jack Pachalis, of Newark; and Mark Penuel, of Georgetown.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, June 13, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, Smyrna.
Burial in Bethel Cemetery, near Chesapeake City, Md.
