Joseph "Joe" Hartzler Myers, Jr., 74, of Seaford, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, June 10, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Bobtown, PA, on Friday, December 20, 1935, son of the late Joseph H. and Vera (Williams) Myers, Sr.

Joe was often referred to as "one who walked to a different drummer." Joe was a self-made man who began programming computers in the early days of development.  He worked as an independent contractor retiring in 1998 but continued as the "Old Wizard" doing PC repair work.

The only thing Joe loved more than his work was his family.  In 2001, Joe became a full time baby-sitter for his great-grandchildren calling it "the best job I ever had."  He continued baby-sitting until his death.  Forever Poppie, he is dearly loved and will be forever missed by all that knew and loved him.

When Joe was not working or baby-sitting, he was an avid woodworker who shared his master pieces with family and friends.

Joe proudly served his country with the  United States Air Force from 1955 to 1957 and served in the reserves until 1961.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Sandra Wachter-Myers; two sons: Joseph S. Myers and wife Lisa of Lewes and Jay M. Myers and wife Kathy of Laurel; one daughter, Tambra M Wharton and husband Scot of Millsboro; eight grandchildren: Josh Wharton and  wife Katy of Seaford, Angela Rieley and husband Michael of Millsboro, Dustin Myers, Robin Myers, Leanne Wharton and Bradley Wharton all of Millsboro, and Joseph Z. Myers and Erikka  Myers both of Lewes; seven great-grandchildren: Noah Wharton of Millsboro, Kolin Wharton of Seaford, Ian Rieley and Keegan Rieley both of Millsboro, Nickolas Wharton of Seaford, Emma Rieley and Micah Wharton, both of Millsboro; and one sister, Dawn  M. Watro and husband Robert of New Holland, PA.

All services are private.

Interment will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Georgetown.
