In the July 19th issue of the News Journal, the AARP noted some key legislation that will especially benefit some of Delaware's most vulnerable citizens. One provision is for dementia specific training for professionals caring for persons diagnosed with Alzheimer's or other from of dementia. This legislation is House Bill 159. In 2009, then Representative Joe Booth was approached concerning the great difficulties dementia sufferers face when their "behaviors" can not be understood. He knew that the best help that could be given was that of well trained professionals to care for them, he sprang into action. Representative Booth wrote HB 159, and introduced it into the House. With his guidance, the bill passed the House unanimously in June of '09. During the 2010 session, Senator Bethany Hall-Long joined now Senator Booth in introducing and shepherding the Bill through the Senate. HB159 passed and has been signed by our Governor. While this legislation is invaluable to us all, there are other issues facing this segment of our population that must be addressed. Once again, Senator Booth has been approached and shows an open willingness to take the next step.
During his career in the House and Senate, Senator Booth has proven again and again that his primary concern is that of the citizens living in the state that he works for. Donald Adams, former President of the Rotary club once said, "To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity". Sincerity and integrity are attributes that can be found in Joseph Booth.
Please re-elect Mr Booth to the Senate. We need him to continue to speak for the voiceless, we may all be there one day.
