I would like to comment on a recent [letter] printed in your paper regarding the prayer issue in the Indian River School District and the money spent to defend it.
Sometimes, we do not have a choice in the actions taken. For example, when a suit is filed against the district, there are really only two choices and they are: to defend it or try to reach a monetary settlement in order to hold down litigation fees. When the second option is used to settle by paying the litigant off then it will almost always lead to more suits regardless of how groundless they may be.
The other issue is when school board members are criticized unfairly. They hold a position whereby the vast majority would not dedicate their time. They work all day and have committee meetings at night and on the night of the official board meeting get home after midnight. At times, decisions may not be what I would like, but I am thankful that they have researched and done their homework to make fair and unbiased decisions.
On May 11, the Indian River School District No. 2 will be holding elections. We are blessed to have good choices willing to serve.
However, my choice is Kelly Willing.
She has not only paid her dues by serving and listening to her constituents for the last three years but she has the best interest of all parties in mind. Kelly, is a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and works tirelessly with the junior church program. Her interest in the position of Indian River board member is to make a difference and make the program the best it can be. Therefore, I hope your vote will be as mine.
