Recently I was involved in a near-fatal accidents at our home in Millsboro on Memorial Day. I wish to thank the paramedics and ambulance crew who responded to my need. I spent a week at Nanticoke Memorial with five days in ICU. Again, the care and skill of the doctors and nurses was remarkable, superseded only by God’s divine intervention. His mercy and power brought me from minimal brain waves and severe seizures with a dismal prognosis to revitalizing my skills at rehab.
My family, in those dark days, were encouraged by prayers, love and encouragement of family, friends, church family and acquaintances. During my time of recovery, with the calls and visits I glimpsed a unique experience.
This county has been adjusting to changes over time with new residents, new developments and many improvements. Some still remember when living here was quiet, uneventful and cohesive.
What I was able to see through my ordeal was that core still remains. Our family and church family united in prayer. I received cards from folks I never met. There was a bonding in love and concern for my husband and children. Some sent flowers or brought dinners to help us.
Those acts of kindness are what I remember from years ago. Though our county is more crowded, life has become busier, and outward changes are evident, there is still a sense of community, pulling together with support and encouragement to anyone in need.
I appreciate all that has been done for us and as long as folks have caring hearts, our area will always maintain its heritage. Thus, wee have an opportunity to expand and enlarge this gift to new neighbors, giving them a glimpse of what we treasure.
