Polar Bear Plunge raises more than $500,000

Mar 15, 2010 @ 11:21 AM
In its 19th year, the Rehoboth Beach Polar Bear Plunge raised more than $500,000 for Special Olympics. This year saw 2,323 polar bears take the plunge and raise money for charity. Participants converged on a foggy Rehoboth Beach to shop, eat and plunge into the chilly Atlantic waters. They didn't have to plunge far because the waves were crashing high on the beach Sunday morning. Most just went in up to their knees as event staff and emergency responders watched over the crowds to make sure everyone was safe.
