The Sussex County Council voted to retain its current leadership for 2012 at its Tuesday, Jan. 3 meeting with Councilman Vance Phillips, of Laurel, making the nominations during his first council meeting since an October airplane accident.
For the second year in a row, the council selected Councilman Michael H. Vincent, of Seaford, as president for the second consecutive year. The County Council also re-elected Councilman Samuel R. Wilson, Jr., of Georgetown, as vice-president for another year.
It is customary for the council to utilize the first meeting of the new year to reorganize, elect officers, and appoint legal staff.
As Council President, Vincent will continue to preside over all council meetings in 2012 and Wilson will substitute as the presiding officer anytime Vincent is unable to attend a meeting.
The council also approved the re-appointment of J. Everett Moore as county attorney. Additionally, the law firms of Moore & Rutt and Griffin & Hackett were appointed to represent the Board of Adjustments and the Planning and Zoning Commission respectively, with staff from those firms serving as assistant county attorneys.
