Sussex Tech senior Desmond Sivels has inked his letter of intent to play football at West Virginia Wesleyan College next year.
Sussex Central football defensive coordinator Dave “Nut” Marvel has been on the gridiron sidelines for over three decades, so while he has seen his fair share of changes, not much surprises him. Earlier this year, however, football – albeit off the field – surprised the boisterous leader during the sport’s annual awards dinner, as he was named the Assistant Coach of the Year. Marvel is just the second coach to earn the award.

Led by 11 Indian River football players earning All-South honors, the area was well represented when the Henlopen Conference announced its awards. Sussex Central had nine players obtain All-North honors and head coach John Wells was named conference coach of the year, while seven Sussex Tech players were named to the North various teams.
Sussex Central football has had little trouble with little brother Indian River in recent seasons, and few fans who watched the Golden Knights host the Indians Friday night thought the latest rivalry bout would be any different. IR, however, had no intention of laying down for Central in what could be head coach Jim Bunting’s last game at the helm with the Indians. Not with that and a possible Division II playoff at large berth on the line, plus the pride factor as well.
Sussex Central learned Sunday, Nov. 15, it would travel to Concord for its Division I first round state tournament game.

With his football team down a pair of touchdowns early in the fourth quarter to visiting Sussex Central, Sussex Tech head coach Bernie Nowakowski might have been thinking about using his birthday wish. Thanks to a pair of late touchdowns, however, his Ravens saved him the wish and gave him 18-15 victory as their gift.
