The Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation awarded two community scholarships and awarded a third student the William O. Murray Scholarship at senior award ceremonies held in June. To be eligible for the scholarships, students must be residents of the Indian River School District in communities served by QRCF.  Each scholarship totals $8,000, awarded in $1,000 increments per semester.

Maggie McGuinness, a 2010 graduate of Sussex Central High School, and Margo Carey, a 2010 graduate of Sussex Technical High School, both of Ocean View, were each honored with QRCF Community Scholarships.  These scholarships are funded through the generous support of businesses and residents that support QRCF-sponsored events throughout the year.  McGuinness is enrolled at Goucher College in Maryland, and Carey is enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America for the fall 2010 semester.

Alyssa Murray, a Dagsboro resident and 2010 graduate of Indian River High School, was presented with the William O. Murray Memorial Scholarship by QRCF Board of Directors member Heidi Vanderhook.  The scholarship is funded by the annual William O. Murray Exercise for the Eskimos swim, held each January 1 by the Bethany-Fenwick Chamber of Commerce to commemorate the community work of Mr. Murray, who was a revered Chamber member and tireless volunteer within the Quiet Resorts communities.  In addition to academic achievement, winners of the William O. Murray award have demonstrated a commitment to community service. In addition to her extensive community service activities, Murray was the captain of the inaugural IRHS team that entered the 2010 Exercise for the Eskimo swim. Murray is enrolled at the University of Delaware for the fall 2010 semester.
