Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2010 at Sussex Technical High School in Georgetown will take place on Thursday, June 3, rain or shine. The processional will begin at 6 p.m. and the ceremony will immediately follow. Guest speaker will be Dr. Patrick E. Savini, superintendent of the Sussex Technical School District.
Savini served as Sussex Tech’s first principal from 1991-1997. He was instrumental in overseeing the successful conversion of Sussex Tech from a shared-time vocational center to a full-time comprehensive technical high school. He was selected as the State of Delaware 1996 Principal of the Year and is recognized by the High Schools That Work network as a trainer of Outstanding Practices. He later became the District’s Director of Support Services before being named District Superintendent in November 2003. A prominent and beloved face in the halls of Sussex Tech, Dr. Savini will be greatly missed when he retires at the end of August 2010.
Family and friends are invited to the commencement ceremonies. If held outside in Raven Stadium, no tickets are necessary and access to the stadium begins at 4:30 p.m. Seating and disability accessibility are available on both sides of the field. Pictures and videotaping may be done along the fence in front of the bleachers. Spectators may not enter onto the field until after the conclusion of the ceremonies.
In the event of rain, the commencement ceremonies will be held in the gymnasium. Because of the limited space, tickets are required by adults and children of any age to enter the school. During graduation rehearsal on Wednesday, June 2, graduates will each receive three tickets for gymnasium admittance plus two run-over admittance tickets. Guests in the gymnasium are asked to please remain seated in the bleachers during the entire ceremony. The two run-over guests will be allowed to view the ceremonies via television in one of the cafeteria and classrooms in the 800 hallway. Handicap guests will be admitted in the school at 4:30 p.m. and the doors will open for all other ticket holders at 5 p.m.
Decision about the weather will be made by noon and notice will be placed on the school’s webpage at www.sussexvt.k12.de.us.
