Not much sports action was going on across the state these last few weeks, and for some teams, maybe that’s a good thing.
Winter break is always a time reassess where your squad sits and make adjustments for the grind that is the next month and a half leading to the tournament season.
Still, some action did take place over the winter vacation, both on the hoops courts and the wrestling mat.
Sussex Central’s wrestling team, after an impressive showing at the Beast of the East tournament, went to the Tiger Classic at A.I. duPont and slammed its way to a decisive first place finish.
IR’s wrestling squad too had an impressive break, including a dual meet victory over Henlopen South foe Laurel.
On the court, both boys and girls games were played, with the Lady Indians of Indian River earning a big conference victory over rival Laurel.
Boys wise, things did not do quite as well, as both IR and Sussex Tech struggled in Salisbury against some out-of-state competition.
This week conference action gets back on track and crunch time for tourney hopeful teams is just around the corner.
