Sussex Tech's wrestling team, as part of a quad meet at Sussex Central with the Golden Knights, Cape Henlopen and Milford, made its case to be included in the Division I state dual meet tournament with wins over both the Vikings and Buccaneers.

Tech, Milford and Cape, Tuesday evening, were in all probability looking to earn the final spot in next Tuesday's (Feb. 23) tourney at Delaware State University, and it was the Ravens who held on to knock off both squads.

Milford and Tech got the party started with a dramatic meet that included some lost tempers and ended when Ravens senior heavyweight Aikeem Brewer, trailing 7-2 at the time, managed to pin his Buccaneer opponent Derek Chilicas with 22 seconds remaining in the second period.

The pin secured a 40-33 Tech victory.

From there the Ravens held off a strong Vikings team for a 35-30 win.

Central also wrestled both Cape and Milford and had little trouble with either, besting the former 53-9 and the latter 62-9.

The Knights will wrestle Smyrna at home Friday and a victory over the Eagles would give them the Henlopen North title.

Delaware's wrestling committee will pick the six DI teams for the state duals from a list of applicants this weekend, but the consensus seems to agree those squads will be nationally ranked St. Mark's and Central, as well as Smyrna, Caesar Rodney, Sussex Tech and the Blue Hen Flight A champion, which earns an automatic bid.
