Sussex Tech softball needed some late inning magic against visiting Red Lion, and the Ravens got it in the form of sophomore Logan Pavlik, as the playoffs' No. 2 seed won 5-4 in 11 innings to move to the second round.

The Lady Ravens' will host Milford, which earlier in the day bested Smyrna in extra innings, on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom half of the fifth inning and with Red Lion windmiller Katie Warrington cruising along, the Ravens finally cut their deficit in half thanks to a solo home run off Pavlik's bat.

Pavlik, however, was not nearly done for the afternoon, as she tied the game at 2-2 in the seventh when she doubled in freshman Cassidy Taylor, who legged out an infield single in her at bat.

Red Lion, however, regrouped and in the top half of the ninth frame, and the No. 15 seed took a 3-2 lead and had the Ravens on the ropes.

In the bottom half of the inning, however, Pavlik answered again with a two-out double that plated senior Jenna Allen and kept the contest going.

With the international tiebreaker rule (which allows teams to start their at bat off with the last out of the previous inning on second base) in effect, Tech held Red Lion scoreless in the top half of the 11th and then Allen won the game for the Ravens with a walk-off single that plated freshman Kim Smith in its plate appearance.

Both teams traded runs in the 10th inning and went into the final frame knotted 4-4.

Smith, who took the circle in relief of senior Brooke Tull to start the fourth inning of the bout, ended up with the win, as she allowed just two hits, two runs and struck out 12 in eight innings of work.

Earlier in the day, No. 3 seed Sussex Central advanced to the second round with a 6-1 win over Laurel, and No. 8 Indian River also moved on with an extra innings victory over Wilmington Charter.

Central will host No. 11 seed Caesar Rodney, which upset Archmere 3-1 in the opening round, in a rematch of a game the Lady  Riders won earlier in the season.

IR also draws a familiar opponent, top seed Caravel, which won handily over the Lady Indians during the regular season and defeated Polytech 4-0 in the tournament's first round.
