Since David and Pat Horsey established the Horsey Family Youth Foundation Fund (HFYF) at the Delaware Community Foundation in 2003, nearly $200,000 has been awarded for 76 grants to support organized sports in Delaware. The foundation’s goal is to try to keep children off drugs and off the streets by encouraging them to become involved in education and sports programs. This year’s grants totaling $38,619 will support 15 organizations in Kent, New Castle and Sussex counties; helping up to 4,000 youngsters.
The organizations receiving the grants were recognized by HFYF Fund founders David and Pat Horsey and their family at the sixth annual grants presentation held Thursday, Aug. 19 at the Shore Thunder Starz Building.
The organizations receiving grants include: Diamond State Swoop, Laurel Little League, Laurel Pop Warner and the Shore Thunder Starz. Woodbridge School District Varsity Track Team in Bridgeville also received an award. In the Georgetown area, Delaware Technical & Community College, Georgetown Little League, Sussex Central Pop Warner and Sussex Technical High School received grants. Diamon Dreams Athletic Performance Center in Delmar and the Lower Delaware Autism Foundation in Lewes were the other Sussex County winners. In Kent County, Dover/Caesar Rodney Raiders Pop Warner, Harrington Pop Warner and Milford Pop Warner received awards.
