The DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement reported the following incidents between Feb. 8 and Feb. 15:
Feb. 9: Theodore Baumgardner, 38, of Wilmington, was arrested on charges of felony theft of a motor vehicle, felony receiving stolen property, second degree felony conspiracy and theft by false pretense. He is accused of stealing a Fish and Wildlife vessel and motor on a trailer in August 2011. Agents say Baumgardner was arraigned on the charges and released on a $16,000 unsecured bond while awaiting trial.
Feb. 8: A woman reported being attacked by a white-tailed deer in a Clayton neighborhood. When the woman approached the animal to take a photo, she was reportedly head-butted to the ground. Agents say the woman broke her wrist in the fall. Two Fish and Wildlife Enforcement agents say they located the deer and captured it using a control loop and stick. One agent reportedly caught the animal by hand while the other held off a neighbor’s charging pit bull. The deer was turned over to the Wildlife Section. Agents say it appears the deer may have been raised in captivity.
Enforcement agents also issued citations for the following offenses between Feb. 8 and Feb. 15: Possession of unlawfully taken snow geese, prohibited method of hunting waterfowl with a rifle, possession of prohibited lead shot, carrying a loaded weapon in a motor vehicle, hunting from a motor vehicle, shooting from a public roadway.
