Indian River girls soccer avenged a regular season loss to Sussex Tech when it mattered the most, as the Lady Indians moved to the state tournament quarterfinals with a win over the Lady Ravens.
No. 7 IR will play again Saturday against two-seed Padua, a 5-0 winner over Concord. Time and location for that bout have not been announced yet.
Senior Caitlin Forte led the Indians in the win with a goal and an assist but it was classmate Marissa Atkins’ score midway through the first half that proved to be the game-winner.
On the diamond, IR baseball fell to top-seed Salesianum 14-4 and saw its season come to a conclusion. The only two downstate baseball teams to advance on Tuesday, No. 2 Milford and No. 10 Caesar Rodney, will meet Thursday in the quarterfinals. The game, at Milford, is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start due to Milford’s graduation that night.
