State police are investigating the apparent suicide of a 68-year-old Millsboro man who drove his vehicle into Ingram Pond.

During a search for the missing man, troopers discovered the submerged vehicle in an area of the pond near Godwin School Road, west of Millsboro, at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

Delaware State Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Shavack said the vehicle still had its lights on when officers found it under about 5 feet of water and about 90 feet from where it entered the pond.

Dive teams from the Millsboro and Selbyville fire companies recovered the driver’s body and removed the vehicle from the pond with assistance from a Delaware State Police helicopter, Shavack said.

The body has been turned over to the Delaware State Medical Examiner’s Office, which will determine a cause of death, he said.

No foul play is suspected, Shavack added.

Police have not released the man’s name or identified the type of vehicle he was driving.
