In partnership with Mid-Atlantic Family Practice, Beebe Medical Center is now offering expanded outpatient health services in Millsboro.

“For the first time since I’ve been in healthcare, except for the family doctors who always have this focus, the rest of the healthcare system is talking about what it is we can do to keep people healthy,” said Jeffrey Fried, president and CEO of Beebe Medical Center. “How do we develop partnerships with patients and how do we make sure there are facilities to serve them? In fact, are there times when we can keep them out of the hospital and provide a more cost effective setting, such as a walk-in center instead of having to come to the emergency department?”

The new health facility, located on U.S. Route 113 in Millsboro, includes Beebe Walk-in Care, Beebe Imaging and Beebe Lab Express. The facility also houses Mid-Atlantic Family Practice, whose hub is also located in Lewes. The endeavor is an expansion for Mid-Atlantic Family Practice, in an effort to provide more access to primary care in Sussex County.

“For those of you who are from this area, you know this building became a little bit derelict over the past few years,” said Dr. Jeffrey Heckert of Mid-Atlantic Family Practice at a Thursday open house. “But with a significant investment, we’ve turned it into what it is today, which is really a state-of-the-art healthcare facility. The synergy between primary care, walk-in care, radiology and lab is the perfect medical home for folks, so I think it’s going to serve the community well for now and into the future.”

Kelly Griffin, a spokeswoman for Beebe, said the physicians at Mid-Atlantic Family Practice are members of Beebe’s medical staff, which makes for a nice collaboration.

“There isn’t enough primary care in Sussex County, so it’s really good that another practice is opening,” Griffin said. “Mid-Atlantic has opened this second location and has added more physicians to fulfill the needs of people in this area, so they don’t have to go to Lewes.”

According to Holly Ferebee, billing analyst and physician network administrator in the new Beebe facility, there are currently three exam rooms available for use; but Beebe has the ability to expand to five exam rooms. One exam room, Ferebee said, is equipped for pediatric care, another for gynecological care, and a third for geriatric care. A fourth room in the facility is set up for “point of care testing,” which includes urine dips and throat cultures.

Beebe Walk-In Care offers treatment to patients with a variety of minor issues such as upper respiratory infections, minor injuries, skin problems and some medication refills.

Beebe Imaging serves include X-ray and mammography. No appointments are required for X-rays, but appointments are required for mammography.

Beebe Lab Express offers comprehensive testing services, with no appointment necessary.
