Charles “Donald” Hitchens, 79, of Georgetown passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, DE.

Donald was born in Redden, DE, the son of the late John M. and Margaret (West) Hitchens.

He was a truck driver for Adams Oil Co. for 34 years retiring in 1997.

He was a member of Grace U.M. Church in Georgetown, the Georgetown Jaycees and Redman Club. He coached Little League for 7 years and was a valued player and pitcher for the Jaycees Softball Team.

Hitchens, sisters, Kathryn Meridith, Mildred Hudson and Ruth Littleton and brothers, Hoyt Hitchens and Harvey Hitchens. He is survived by his children, Robin Donald Hitchens and wife Debbie of Milford, David Bryan Hitchens and wife Melissa of Georgetown and Donna Scott and husband Marty of Georgetown; 1 sister, Marie Ellingsworth; 1 brother, John M Hitchens, Jr.; 7 grandchildren, Amber, Jared and Brooke Hitchens, Tyler and Brian Scott, Caitlin and Connor Hitchens; 3 great grandchildren and many other family and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, DE, where friends may call after 11:00 am. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington, De.
