A 59-year-old Pittsville, Md. woman died April 18 in a two-vehicle crash on Conaway Road in Millsboro.

According to the Delaware State Police, the accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. as a 2005 Chevrolet Venture minivan operated by 21-year-old Dakota A. Price of Laurel was traveling westbound on Phillips Road and for unknown reasons traveled off the right side of the roadway, into an open field. Police said the Chevrolet continued traveling about 250 feet through the field, in a northwest direction. Police said the Chevrolet reentered onto Conaway Road and struck the driver’s side of a 2005 Ford Freestyle minivan operated by Janice F. Adams, which was traveling southbound on Conaway Road, preparing to stop behind several other vehicles for a posted stop sign at the intersection with Phillips Hill Road. After the impact, police said both vehicles traveled off the west edge of Conaway Road and came to a rest in the middle of an open field.

Adams, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene. The front seat passenger in the Ford, Patrick G. Adams of Pittsville, Md., was properly restrained and was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md. where he was treated and released for minor injuries. A rear seat passenger in the Ford, 16-year-old Madelyn E. Riekert of Pittsville, Md., was unrestrained and was transported to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Md. where she was admitted with serious injuries. Price was properly restrained and was transported to Beebe Healthcare where he was treated and released with minor injuries.

Police said the investigation into this incident continues and there have been no charges filed at this time.

The intersection of Conaway and Phillips Hill roads was closed to traffic for about four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
