A 76-year-old Georgetown woman has died from injuries sustained during a crash in Georgetown last month.

Della G. Mellington was driving a 1999 Pontiac Montana westbound on East Piney Grove Road on July 24 when she failed to remain stopped at a stop sign and pulled into the path of a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, according to Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.

The Silverado, operated by 79-year-old James L. Walter of Delmar, was traveling northbound on Shortly Road before hitting the Pontiac on the driver’s side, Fournier said.

Walter, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated and released, Fournier said.

Mellington also was wearing a seatbelt and initially was flown to Kent General Hospital before being flown to Christiana Medical Center. She died in the care of Seasons Hospice of Newark on July 29.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation of the crash.
