SUSSEX TECH RAVENS

Head Coach: Steve Perry

2013 Record: 14-6 (Lost in Second Round of State Tournament)

Returnees: Aubre Allen, Shi’wan Sykes, Jamont Matthews, Tai’Ron Abbott, Jeff Munro, Billy Ball, Kani Kane

Newcomers: Brandon Palmer, Patrick Griffin, Javon Hunt-Fletcher, Randy Rickards

Season Outlook: The Sussex Tech Ravens boys’ basketball squad returns for another season looking to improve upon last year’s 14-6 record. The Ravens earned the number seven seed last season but fell in a close game to St. Georges Tech in the second round. This season, with several returnees Tech looks to get back to the tournament and advance deeper this time.  Tech loses guards Rae’Kwan Deshields and Duane Hopkins, and forward Robert Larkin to graduation but return new seniors Jamont Matthews, Shi’wan Skyes, Aubre Allen, Billy Ball, Kani Kane, and Jeff Munro. While the likes of Larkin and Deshields will be hard to replace, the Ravens have the majority of their core returning which should keep them among the top teams in the Henlopen Conference this season.

From the Coach: “We’re looking to compete for the North and improve from last year’s 14-6 record. We will be exciting to watch and compete hard every night.”

SUSSEX CENTRAL GOLDEN KNIGHTS

Head Coach: Wes Townsend

2013 Record: 4-15

Returnees: Brian Carroll, Amontay Clanton, Luke Williams, Jordaan Brummell

Newcomers: Ethan Lambert, Dwayne Bailey, Brody Grove, Jacob Swift, Aaron Spady, Ty’juan Purnell, Lashawn Handy, Richard Flemming, Deron Doherty, Rashawn Davis

Season Outlook: The Sussex Central Golden Knights boys’ basketball squad returns for another season looking to bounce back after a 4-15 season last year. The Golden Knights lose five seniors including Tarez White and Shyheim Ayres and return just a handful of players from last year’s team. Returning to the fold this season are seniors Brian Carroll, Amontay Clanton, Luke Williams, and junior Jordaan Brummell. Joining the returning core are some new seniors to the team, Dwayne Bailey and Brody Grove along with a large group of new juniors including Rashawn Davis, Deron Doherty, Richard Flemming, Arron Spady, and Jacob Swift. With a largely new group, the returning players will be leaned on heavily especially at the start of the season while new players get acclimated with their teammates. The Golden Knights won’t be anyone’s pick to go to the championship but an improvement upon their four wins from last year is expected.

DELMARVA CHRISTIAN ROYALS

Head Coach: Jonah Lathbury

2013 Record: 6-14

Returnees: Matt Dykstra, Logan Waide, Joshua Dekker, Micah Magee

Newcomers: Michael Apgar, Josiah Knapp, Raymond Feng, Parker Thoroughgood, CJ Wilkerson, Tristan Winterling

Season Outlook: The Delmarva Christian Royals boys’ basketball team returns looking to improve upon last year’s 6-14 record. Just two seasons removed from a 10 win season the Royals went backwards in 2013, and hope to turn things around this season. The Royals will be without the majority of last year’s team, losing five seniors from last year’s team including Hamilton Schlabach, Tanner Waide, Luke Wilson, Jeremy Woolsey, and Kaleb Dekker. With just four returnees from last season, seniors Matt Dykstra, Logan Waide, Joshua Dekker and junior Micah Magee, the Royals will have to see some contributions from some newcomers making the jump from JV.
