Weather moves out in time for Saturday's headliners.
Guests took a page out of Gene Kelly's songbook Saturday afternoon at the Big Barrel Country Music Festival by singing in the rain.
On-and-off rain showers pestered festivalgoers from afternoon into the early evening. But it wasn't enough to silence country fans. Thousands showed up despite the weather forecast.
Folks were seen dancing in the schizophrenic showers during Chris Stapleton's set on the main stage. Stapleton began playing around 4:50 p.m. and gave a shout-out to people who were dancing at his show. Others were singing in the open in front of the main stage.
Nevertheless, the rain was a problem. Those who decided to bring their own chairs were sitting in cold, wet seats. And the grounds were muddy and a little slick. There was a point around 5 p.m. when the rain became so heavy it looked like the evening's shows might be cancelled. However, Red Frog Events assistant director Amanda Shaker said they had no plans to wrap up the festival early.
As it turned out, the rain moved out of the Dover area between 8 and 8:30 p.m. as Loretta Lynn finished on the Wildwood Stage. With the rain gone, Miranda Lambert prepared to close out the night at 10:15 p.m.
Hopefully, Sunday – the third and final day – will end on a bright and shiny note as headliner Carrie Underwood caps off the weekend.
