Shyron R. Floyd, a 39-year-old man from Ellendale, was arrested by the Delaware State Police Sussex County Governor’s Task Force on Feb. 29 and is facing charges of heroin distribution, according to police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary E. Fournier.
State Police received information that Floyd was staying at a residence in the 8000 block of North Old State Road near Lincoln and he was wanted on three warrants out of Sussex County courts.
When troopers and probation and parole officers assigned to the task force arrived at the residence they spotted Floyd standing outside. He immediately began to run into the woods north of the house.
Troopers began pursuit and told Floyd to stop several times before a state police K9 was released and caught him. Troopers found 102 bags of heroin totaling 1.53 grams while searching the area where Floyd was running.
Floyd refused any medical attention due to minor abrasions he received while running through the woods.
He is charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of a controlled substance (heroin), tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Floyd was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown on $20,000 secured bond.
