Dogfish Head, Waco Brothers join celebration at Rehoboth record store

Gidget’s Gadgets in Rehoboth Beach will celebrate Record Store Day Saturday for the second year in a row.

This year, Sam Calagione, founder of Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton, will be in store pouring beer samples and signing the brewery’s RSD release "Dogfish Head Brewery Presents: Music To Drink Beer To, Vol. 2."

Chicago-based alt-country band The Waco Brothers will also be on hand to play an acoustic performance.

Several items will be raffled off throughout the day. All raffle proceeds go to the True Blue Jazz initiative, a scholarship for high school students perusing music education.

Steve Fallon, owner of Gidget’s Gadgets, said the store has been selling vinyl records for about five years and 40 percent of its business is vinyl. The store also sells comic books, collectables, vintage toys, and board games.

“Some big vinyl sellers include Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Led  Zeppelin and The Beatles,” Fallon said. “If I had 50 Pink Floyd, The Dark Side of the Moon records in the store right now I could sell them all this weekend.

“As fast as I get them, I sell them, and I’m actually bringing in eight more records just for Record Store Day,” he said.

Fallon said most of his customers fall between the ages of 14-30 and enjoy the way vinyl sounds compared to digital records.

“People who like music find vinyl records more appealing and prefer buying them,” Fallon said. “That’s good for business.”

Fallon said he is sure Record Store Day will bring a large crowd to the store.

“I know there’ll be a line forming at 8 a.m. waiting for people to come inside,” he said.
