NAACP Central Branch President vows to "Make Delaware First Again."

La Mar Gunn, president of the Delaware Central Branch NAACP, has announced his candidacy as the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor.

“My goal is to ‘Make Delaware First Again.’” Gunn said in his announcement.

Gunn also is chief executive officer of Gunn Wealth Management, which just opened a new office on South State Street in Dover.

Gunn said as lieutenant governor he will work as a jobs ambassador, will develop strategies to improve education without increasing spending, and will hold legislators and administrators responsible for failing to do their jobs.

He is the first Republican to announce for the office; there are six candidates running on for the Democratic nomination.

Sen. Colin Bonini, R-Dover, and retired state trooper Lacey Lafferty are in the running for the Republican gubernatorial nomination; Congressman John Carney is the only announced Democratic candidate.

In Delaware, the governor and lieutenant governor run independent campaigns and there have been cases where the state’s two top office holders have been from different parties.
