The Delaware Friends of Folk will host the 10th annual Delmarva Folk Heroes contest, round 2, at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Bennett Chapel at Wesley College, 120 N. State St., Dover.

The second of two open mics will be held. Sign-up will begin at 6:30 p.m., and each performer will be allowed 15-20 minutes to perform on the Friends of Folk stage.

Ballots will be distributed for the spectators to vote for their favorite performer, and three finalists from the evening will be selected by the audience.

The finalists will each get a performance slot Sept. 23 at the Delmarva Folk Festival. The audience will vote again for their favorite, and the winner will be named a Delmarva Folk Hero. Prizes include $100 cash, the opening performance spot at the Delmarva Folk Festival on Sept. 24, recording time at Digital Street Studios and an invitation to appear live with Mark Rogers on WSTW's “Hometown Heroes” show.

Performers should present a genre relating to traditional, new, singer-songwriter, bluegrass, blues, Celtic, jazz, New Age, World, old-time, roots and storytelling. To simplify changeovers, acts should be no more than five performers, with a strong preference toward fewer members in any act. No drum kits and no pre-recorded accompaniment are allowed.

Admission is $5 for members, $7 for others and free for ages 12 and younger and musicians. Coffee, cookies and other snacks will be available.
