UPDATE: Swartley and Amendt were apprehended by the Georgetown Police Department at the Georgetown McDonald's on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Both were committed to SCI on escape after conviction charges and held on $5,000 cash bail.


The Delaware Department of Correction is seeking two offenders that absconded from the Sussex Community Corrections Center in Georgetown after willfully failing to return from approved work passes to Allen’s in Harbeson on Monday, Feb. 13. The offenders' whereabouts are unknown and unauthorized at this time. Warrants for escape after conviction have been issued.

The two absconding offenders are 22-year-old Chad Swartley, last known address Frankford, and 26-year-old Mark Amendt, last known address Georgetown. Both are white males. Swartley is five-foot-nine and 150 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair. He has tattoos on his right arm and upper left arm. Amendt is 5 feet tall and 120 pounds with green eyes and brown hair. He has tattoos on both arms. Both absconders were serving time for violation probation on theft of less than $1,500 charges.

Community Corrections Centers are Level 4 facilities where the DOC manages offenders who are transitioning back into the community. These centers are not secured like Level 5 prisons, as offenders are permitted to the leave the facility to go to work, seek jobs or attend approved treatment sessions.
