The Delaware Department of Transportation announces that their contractor, Grassbusters Landscaping Co., will begin work at the intersection of Zoar, Bethesda and Speedway roads for a roundabout.

The work is scheduled to begin May 15 and is anticipated to be completed in September, pending weather.

During the construction, a detour will be implemented on Zoar Road.

Detour routes are:

— North on Zoar Road, left onto Governor Stockley Road, right on US 113, right on Woodbranch Road and return to Zoar Road.

— South on Zoar Road, right on Woodbranch Road, left on US 113, left onto Governor Stockley Road and back to Zoar Road.

There is a history of high crash rates at this location, and the current layout is often confusing for motorists. Because of a sharp horizontal curve in the alignment of Zoar Road approaches, the existing intersection geometry creates confusion for drivers and unsafe conditions. As such, improvements were recommended by DelDOT's Highway Safety Improvement Program. In addition, the Route 24 Planning Study recommended that Speedway and Zoar roads be signed as Alternate Route 24, with a roundabout considered at the intersection.
