The city of Rehoboth Beach held a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 5 for the completion of the Lake Avenue Streetscape Project.

The project started in September 2016 and was completed in May. Kercher Engineering worked with the city, Sam's Construction and the Delaware Department of Transportation to redesign Lake Avenue from Rehoboth Avenue to Third Street as part of a federally funded project. The project has resulted in a wide array of street improvements that provide safe sidewalks that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act along Lake Avenue and crosswalks at the intersection of Third Street.

The project also includes a minor realignment of the street, elimination of parking on one side and improved street lighting. Additionally, utility poles have been relocated, and the existing drainage has been upgraded. The project was funded with an $800,000 federal grant, administered by DelDOT. The remaining funds are being paid by the city.
