The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce and Carl M. Freeman Companies recognized the achievements and service of police officers, firefighters and
emergency medical service units from Southern Sussex County at the 2018 Joshua M. Freeman Valor Awards, held Feb. 9 at The Den at Bear Trap Dunes.
Seventeen service men and women, nominated by their superiors, were recognized for their work and achievements throughout the past year.
The Overall Valor Award recognized Officer 1st Class Nicholas Harrington, of the Ocean View Police Department, and Deputy 1st Class Anthony Rhode, of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office. The two officers worked together in March of 2017 to stop a suspect who fled from Ocean City, Maryland, into Ocean View. Chief Kenneth McLaughlin of the Ocean View Police Department nominated the officers for the award, stating, “both officers stood firm in the face of danger and their performance throughout this ordeal was exemplary.”
